When should I see a physiotherapist?
Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that assesses, diagnoses, treats, and works to prevent disease and disability through physical means. Physiotherapists are experts in movement and function who work in partnership with their patients, assisting them to overcome movement disorders, which may have been present from birth, acquired through accident or injury, or are the result of ageing or life-changing events.
Do I need a referral?
As first contact practitioners Physiotherapists do not usually need a doctor’s referral. There are however a few exceptions including:
- Workers compensation claims
- Third Party Motor vehicle claims (CTP)
- Medicare claims (EPC)
Physiotherapists, doctors, and other health professionals will often work as part of a team to plan and manage treatment for a specific condition so as part of our new patient forms we will request the details of your practitioners.
What do I need to bring to my appointment?
- Private health fund card (if applicable)
- Any medical documentation relevant to injury (x-rays, medical reports etc)
- Medication list if appropriate
Workers Compensation & CTP:
- Referral from Doctor
We will also need the following details as they become available:
- Claim number
- Claims manager and address details of insurer
- Date of injury
- Employer details (not relevant to CTP)
- Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) referral form
- Medicare card
- Doctor referral
- White or gold card
